Drowsy driving accounts for over 300,000 car accidents in the U.S. every year. It’s a big problem, but the safety gurus at Nissan have found a way to help combat the epidemic: their new Driver Attention Alert system.

This new safety system was developed to help drivers know if they might be too tired by tracking their movements. When a driver first activates the system, DAA will begin monitoring their driving patterns. This baseline reading will then allow the system to recognize if the car begins to move erratically. If it does sense abnormal patterns, the car will make a chiming sound to get the driver’s attention, before a screen in the driver’s line of sight suggests taking a break. The message is even accompanied by the image of a little amber coffee cup.

“The cup is part of the visual and audible warning provided by Nissan's new Driver Attention Alert (DAA) system, which is designed to help detect drowsy and inattentive driving. DAA will be available on the 2016 Maxima as part of a comprehensive suite of safety and driving aids,” read a Nissan press release, introducing the system.

The 2016 Maxima will be one of the first 2016 Nissan cars in Frisco to adopt the new technology, but you can also find the DAA in the current 2015 Nissan Murano. If you would like more information about the new Driver Attention Alert system and the other innovative features in the newly redesigned 2016 Nissan Maxima, contact us today!
