Those looking for a hybrid crossover near Dallas will be very excited to learn that Nissan is in talks to create a hybrid version of their very popular Rogue model. The Japanese automaker is looking to continue its already impressive line of green cars, and it looks like the Rogue is next on their list.
One of the most popular crossovers on the market, the Nissan Rogue already offers a comfortable interior, impressive safety features and a powerful engine. This new hybrid version should combine the roomy appeal of a CUV, with the increased fuel economy of a hybrid powertrain. Japanese drivers will be the first to get this new version of the Rogue, which will be called the X-Trail. Part hybrid launch, part beta-test, Nissan executives are looking at the success of the X-Trail to see if they want to bring a version of it over to the States.
The crossover’s chief engineer Nobusuke Toukura said that Nissan is hoping to release a Rogue Hybrid in the next few years in order to keep up with the U.S.’s increasing CAFE regulations that will inevitably call for more hybrid cars on the road. According to the automaker, the X-Trail should cut nitrogen emissions by over 75 percent, which will go a long way with regulators once CAFE limits come into effect in 2020.
