The LEAF stands out as an electric vehicle, ranking #2 in its class-a remarkable achievement in such a competitive market. Already packed with impressive features, the Nissan LEAF has recently seen new improvements that have boosted its popularity and competitive edge.

Fermata Energy Bidirectional Charger

One of the latest upgrades to the LEAF is the Fermata Energy Bidirectional Charger. This cutting-edge charger not only draws energy from the grid but can also send energy back, making the LEAF the first electric vehicle in the U.S. with this dual capability.

The charger offers some unique benefits. It can store energy for future use and even save money by returning excess electricity to the grid when it’s not needed. In terms of safety, the bidirectional charger meets several industry standards, including UL and CHAdeMO certifications, and it has passed Nissan’s rigorous requirements, making it fully approved for use with the LEAF.

The V2X Platform

In addition to the Fermata charger, Nissan has integrated the V2X platform with the LEAF. This intelligent software system works hand-in-hand with the Fermata charger, boosting the LEAF's power by up to 33%. The platform not only meets industry standards but is also designed to lower production costs, which translates to more affordable pricing for customers. The bidirectional charger and software are available for installation at Nissan dealerships and for fleet customers, without impacting the LEAF's warranty. In some states, it may have even been available for LEAF models dating back to 2013.
