Benefits of Replacing My Engine Air Filter
The engine air filter in your car is a small but vital part. By filtering out debris, including everything from dust and dirt to pollen and insects, this little filter provides the essential clean air required for your engine to run properly and efficiently. Requiring 10,000 gallons of air per gallon of fuel, your vehicle's engine relies on a properly functioning engine air filter more than you may realize.
When this filter stops working properly, your vehicle will not run as efficiently. Proper replacement of a malfunctioning or clogged engine air filter will result in better overall engine performance, longer engine life, and better miles to the gallon. Your car will even have less impact on the environment when you keep a good air engine filter fitted. Over time, you will also require fewer repairs and cost less to maintain.
How Often Should I Replace My Engine Air Filter?
Some manufacturers recommend that you change your air engine filter once a year. However, depending on how much you drive, this may not be often enough. Changing the filter every 12,000 to 15,000 miles is another standard you can use to determine when the next replacement should be made. Your car's maintenance schedule may also offer more specific advice.
If you're not sure whether it's time for a replacement, you can open the plastic box on top of the engine that houses the filter and check. If the filter is gray, discolored, dirty or clogged, rather than white, it is time for a change. Some other signs that it is time to change your engine air filter include: fuel inefficiency, acceleration problems, and fouled spark plugs. You may also notice a rough engine sound when you are idling. If you notice any of these signs, it's time to check your air engine filter or bring it in so we can check it for you.
