What's New for the 2018 Nissan Maxima?

In addition to its affordable take on luxury, the new Maxima is stepping up its technology game. This year, all models come standard with Android Auto, which joins standard Apple CarPlay technology to give all smartphone users complete integration. These systems display smartphone apps, like Phone, Messages, and Maps, directly on your central touchscreen, so you can interact with them without every looking down at your phone. Being able to use your phone's Maps app on the central system eliminates the need to pay extra for navigation technology. Later this year, the new SR Midnight Edition is scheduled to hit the dealership lot, adding sleek styling features - like blacked-out wheels - to the SR's sporty ride.

Choosing the Right Trim

There are five Maxima trim models from which to choose: the entry-level S, middling SV, modern SL, sporty SR, and premium Platinum. Which one is right for you? That all depends on what you're looking for. The Maxima S model gets you started with everything you need for a comfortable, modern ride - including dual-zone automatic climate control and LED daytime running lights. But, if you're looking for the Maxima's trademark luxury, start with the next level up the SV. Here, you'll find leather upholstery and an upgraded driver seat with extendable thigh support, perfect for tall drivers. The Maxima SL builds on the SV features with increasing convenience, from the ambient interior lighting to a heated steering wheel. This model is also the first to include the 12-speaker Bose premium audio system, giving you a whole new take on all your old favorites. In the Maxima SR, you can downshift at will, thanks to the column-mounted paddle shifters, giving you an extra burst of speed during highway merges and passes. The SR's sport-tuned suspension further bolsters performance, boosting your confidence around turns and down tight mountain passes. Finally, the Maxima Platinum takes many of the SR's performance-oriented features and adds an extra dose of luxury, with modern features like a rear power sunshade and upgraded leather upholstery.

Under the Hood

2018 Nissan Maxima ExteriorHow does Nissan's four-door sports car feel on the road? Extraordinary. That's mostly thanks to its 3.5-liter V6, an engine that supplies 300 horsepower and 261 pound-feet of torque. In addition to significant speed, the Maxima is also known for its smooth, quiet ride. On the road, it feels like nothing short of an expensive European luxury car. Perhaps the only thing to differentiate the two is the Maxima's budget-friendly price tag.

Modern Safety Technology

2018 Nissan Maxima RearThe 2018 Nissan Maxima puts safety first. All models come standard with forward collision mitigation. This technology can sense an oncoming accident, and, should you fail to act in time, it automatically applies the brakes to help you avoid or reduce damages. The Maxima also comes standard with a rearview camera, which comes in handy when you want to back into - or out of - a tight parking space. When you choose the Maxima SL and up, you'll enjoy blind-spot monitoring. This technology alerts you to any vehicles you may not be able to see, helping you switch lanes without any problems. Both the Maxima SR and Platinum models come with Active Trace Control, which automatically utilizes the brakes to help keep the Maxima on its intended path. Finally, the Platinum's 360-degree camera helps you sort out any parallel parking issues, giving you a bird's-eye view of your surroundings as you pull into a parking space.
