What Frisco Drivers Should Know About EV Tax Credits and Charger Incentives
Federal EV incentives are changing, and if you're considering a Nissan EV in Frisco, now is a good time to understand your options. The Clean Vehicle Credit, worth up to $7,500, is scheduled to end on September 30, 2025, unless extended. The separate credit for installing a home EV charger will end on June 30, 2026. If you’ve been waiting to make the switch to electric, don’t wait too long.
Who Qualifies for the Clean Vehicle Credit?
The credit is split in two parts—$3,750 if the vehicle meets battery component requirements and another $3,750 if it meets critical mineral sourcing rules. Vehicles must meet both to receive the full amount. Not all EVs qualify for the full credit, and some may be excluded entirely based on where they’re manufactured or assembled.
Requirements for Nissan EVs to Qualify in Texas
For a new Nissan EV to be eligible, it must:
- Be new at the time of purchase
- Have a battery with at least 7 kilowatt-hours
- Be under 14,000 pounds
- Undergo final assembly in North America
- Be sold by a qualified dealer
Price limits also apply:
- $80,000 MSRP cap for SUVs, trucks, and vans
- $55,000 MSRP cap for all other vehicles
Buyers must also meet income limits and file the proper paperwork with the IRS at the time of sale. In some cases, the dealer can apply the credit as a point-of-sale discount.
Can Frisco Buyers Still Use the Home Charger Tax Credit?
Yes, until June 30, 2026. If you install a qualified home charger, you may be eligible for a 30% tax credit, up to $1,000. It applies to both hardware and installation but must be installed at a primary residence.
What’s Next for Buyers Near Frisco?
We recommend planning ahead. Federal credits are expected to phase out, and the requirements may become more specific. If you're considering the Nissan ARIYA or LEAF, confirm eligibility before you buy.
